12 35 YEARS OF PROGRESS AT PISGAH FOREST are documented in these photo graphs, one taken of the original Ecusta Paper Corporation plant with four cigarette paper machines as it appeared on startup in 1939, the other taken a few weeks ago from the top of the boiler plant. No Tower of Pisa is the tall stack at right, the chim ney for the original four boilers is still as upright as it was 35 years ago. Distortion occurred in piecing photographs together to show the spread from the boiler house and No. 1 precipitator on the right to the roof of the Carbonate Plant at left. In the frame is the first cigarette paper produced at Ecusta, with pencil notation in French dated September 29, 1939, stating that the sheet is of satisfactory quality. Growth over the 35 years was from a plant with 400 employees and a payroll of less than $1,000,000 a year, to the industrial com plex of the Ecusta Paper and Film division plants employing more than 2,500 employ ees and source of an annual payroll of over $25,000,000.
